Nothing but Vanity - Drabble

This is a drabble I wrote for Holy Worlds' "Write a Story from a Single Scripture Verse" quest. The verse is:

"So I hated life, because the work that is worked under the sun was grievous to me; for all is vanity and a chasing after wind." - Ecclesiastes 2:17

And here is the drabble:

Nothing but Vanity

The man lying on the bed was jabbering unintelligibly and twitching at intervals. His hands flew about in bizarre patterns, as though conducting an invisible orchestra.

“What is the matter with him?” Asked a smartly dressed businessman standing by the bed.

“I haven’t a clue.” The doctor replied. “This is a man who has achieved everything in life, wealth, fame, power, the works. Looking at his health records, the worst issue he has ever had would be a common cold.”

“Can you understand anything he says?”

The doctor frowned, puzzled. “All we can make out is ‘Vanities, nothing but smoke’.”

  2. He had every earthly thing that should please a man, yet he was missing out on the most important thing: the Lord. The man came to this realization, that nothing on earth could satisfy, and it sent him mad. It's hard to relay that much in 100 words!

I'm so glad enjoy reading it! I love finding your comments on what I've written! Do keep visiting! :D
